What is LiveThinBlog all about?

A little over 9 months (2/1/08) ago I was thoroughly disgusted with myself because I had allowed myself to gain so much weight that my health was affected adversely.  I had already undergone a hip replacement in 2003, and I was troubled almost every night by acid reflux that would wake me shortly after going to sleep.

My clothes were tight and looked awful.  I would get out of breath climbing a flight of stairs, and frankly, I didn’t have much interest in doing anything that required any physical exertion.

I could go on, but I will leave it at this:  I was an overweight, old man and I looked and felt like one, and I wanted to do something about it.  Desperately.

In fact, I was so desperate to do something about it that I was willing to go through the pain of doing whatever it took to lose the weight…even if that meant that I would be hungry most of the time and would have to make major life style changes.

This blog will chronicle the steps I took, what I learned about what works and doesn’t work and I will also share with you the doubts, self criticism and denial that had to be overcome in order for me to succeed.

Of course, it wasn’t all difficulty.  There were plenty of wins, rewards and encouragement along the way and I will share those as well.  I will share what I ate and when I ate it, and I will also share the "system" and products that I used that helped me stay on the path.  I hope that you will subscribe to the blog and follow me along the way!

    Hi Cheryl-

Thanks for the kind words, and congratulations to you for being the very first person to leave a comment on this brand new blog!

    Best regards,

  3. Hey… Jerry!
Good job. I meet you at a class and I would not have guessed.
You may have heard the girls I know at the signup buzzing at me. I made a goal in April to loose 40 pounds by September for our annual Cancun trip where people are mostly nekked most of the time. I reached that goal, and now want to loose 10 more by christmas. I started at about 200 (blush) and now heading to 150, and buzzing around like I was only 50.. I’m a lot shorter than you. I did Nutrisystems. It is a no brainer. Just eat this, then do something else (except eat).
Thanks for all of your good work. Keep it up and off.

First, congratulations on making your goal. Thanks for revealing your secret. It makes perfect sense. I think there is are a couple of important ingredients you didn’t mention and they are discipline and your will to create new habits. You have them in spades. You just make it look to easy.

    Hi Avram-

I agree with you on the importance of creating new habits and I will speak to that as we go along here. As for my discipline, some times I can still GySgt Hicks, my senior Drill Instructor at Parris Island offering me some Marine Corps style motivation! 🙂 That would be enough to keep any one disciplined enough to complete a task!

I will be offering some of the more traditional methods that I used to maintain discipline as we go along.

    Best regards,

I took your class a week ago on technology, blogging etc you definitely inspired me! I have set up my url and will complete my WordPress blog set up soon.

While visiting Realty TechBytes, I was delighted to read about your success story and weight loss experience. I plan to send your blog link to my sister, Julie, who struggles with these issues as well but has not yet found your determination and to turn the corner. I know she will also be inspired by your “weight loss wisdom” too! Not just good for you but “Great for You!”
    My best,
