The “secret” to my weight loss
Everyone asks me “what’s the secret” to your success? That question just floors me because it assumes that successful weight loss is a closely guarded secret available only to a select few!
Truth be told, that used to be my belief too. For the past 30 years I watched my weight going up several pounds a year until I was finally at my tipping point in February. I have looked at all of the major diets over the years, Atkins, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, and so on. I have had some success with all of them, but nothing that lasted.
The low carb and no carb diets actually made me feel weird within 3 days of starting them and I just could not stick with them. The Jenny Craig diet had me eating foods that I did not like and the Weight Watchers diet had me constantly carrying books and charts around just so that I could determine the point value of whatever it was that I was eating. After a while, I gave that up too. In every case, whatever I had lost, I gained back shortly after stopping the diet, and in most cases I gained more than I had I lost!
So, it’s no wonder that everyone is looking for the secret, as most of us have had past experiences similar to mine.
Rather than make you read through weeks of posts and pages of information, I am going to divulge my secret right now! Ready?
Here it is: I had to burn more calories than I was taking in. That’s it. Nothing more exotic than that. The math is simple, if I am burning 2,500 Calories a day and I am only eating 1,800 calories a day, then the missing 700 calories has to come from stored body fat. And if I stay faithful to the plan, then I end up losing weight.
So, that is the secret!
Staying faithful to the plan is the part that is hard, and this blog will give you the exact details to how I did that, including meals, mind sets, setbacks and successes, so stay tuned!

Dear Jerry,

I’m so happy for you!
Congratulations!!!
I know what does it mean… I have a battle with my weight for a long time.
Couple years ago I lost 30 lbs with NutriSystem and Billy Blanks ( Tae-Bo for 1 hr). But I gain it back and even more
I totally agree with you about spending more energy then we consume. My challenge is… to make myself to go and do this exercises. Well, I’ve reached my heaviest point right now… I think I am ready to shave my extra pounds and look fab
For the next couple month I will try to jump back on track, and since January I will be Very hard on myself!
Thank you for the inspiration!
Ellie
That’s really all there is to it. I just ran a half marathon this weekend, and that keeps me thin for days. I find that I can eat the extra stuff, but if I am disciplined after the run the pants, clothes, cheeks, and waistline lighten up. I remember not too long back being at 208, and now I’ve stayed at 190-191, and occassionally dip into the high 180′s. I’m 5 to 7 pounds away, Jerry! Nice to see you get this Blog going!
